Volleyball Stops Skid at Cobleskill

COBLESKILL, NY- The Utica College volleyball team completed its season sweep over host SUNY Cobleskill in non-conference action Thursday evening.  The Pioneers topped the Fighting Tigers, 3-0, marking their third win in straight sets this season.
 
Utica (3-18) returns to action Saturday as it travels to St. John Fisher College for an Empire 8 Conference pod.  UC will take on Fisher at 11 a.m. followed by a match up against Elmira College (1:30 p.m.).
 
UC won each set in convincing fashion, with the closest coming by a margin of 25-21.  The Pioneers finished strong as they took the third and final set, 25-9.  Utica dominated most the match as it led the host team in four statistical categories, including kills, aces, assists, and digs. 
 
Freshman Hannah Voss (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) had a huge day on the attack as she totaled a career-best 17 kills, with a hitting percentage of .600.  She also added seven digs and one service ace.  Sophomore Samantha Hoerning (Farmingville, NY/Sachem East) was second on the team with 10 kills and compiled an extraordinary hitting percentage of .833.  Junior Brandi Blaszak (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro) chipped in with seven kills of her own, and freshman Leah Octave (New Windsor, NY/Cornwall) had a strong showing at the line as she added a season-high five service aces. 
 
Senior Lora Allen (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville) had an impressive outing as she dished out 30 assists and added 14 digs, while classmate Alexis Lyon (Prospect, NY/Holland Patent) collected a game-high 26 digs.  Sophomore Andreana Kroup (Gloversville, NY/Gloversville) also had a career day as she added a personal best, 19 digs.
