Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

UC Falls on the Road at MCLA

North Adams, Mass. – The Utica College women's basketball team lost to host Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, 62-36, in non-conference action in North Adams, Massachusetts on Wednesday night.  Utica's Mary Miceli (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) led the Pioneers with eight points and three steals, while Ashley Mayo (Nanuet, NY/Nanuet) and Ashelyne Babb (Lynn, MA/Winthrop) each added seven points.  Mayo also hauled in eight rebounds for the Pioneers.

The Pioneers return home Saturday when they host their Alumni Game at 11 a.m. prior to a 2 p.m. tilt against Bard College.  Saturday's game is the Pioneers' fourth annual "A Game For Brooks Miles" where they will help raise awareness and money for childhood cancer.

Brooks Miles Rorick, son of Greg Rorick '98 and Angela Rorick, passed away from heart complications shortly after he was born on April 1, 2008.  Greg, a local podiatrist and Utica College Alum, and his wife Angela are cousins of UC Women's Basketball Head Coach Michele Davis. Coach Davis is the godmother to Brooks' brother, Cooper Rorick.

MCLA's Courtney McLaughlin led the Cougars with 19 points while Kayla Hotaling added 14 points, 15 rebounds and four blocks.  The Cougars, who led the entire contest, registered 31 points off of 28 Utica turnovers.

MCLA jumped out to a 12 point lead in the first quarter and held the Pioneers to just four points in the opening ten minutes of action. The home team maintained its double digit lead through the second quarter and led 28-17 at the half.

The Cougars extended their lead to as many as 20 points, 44-24, with 44 seconds to go in the third quarter. They were able to hold a 20+ point advantage through the final ten minutes and finished with the 26 point victory.

Utica's Calypso Carty (Pipersville, PA/Central Bucks West) netted four points, pulled in eight rebounds and snagged three steals, while freshman Rachel Hunter (West Islip, NY/West Islip) added four points and four rebounds.  Alisha Kelly (Ambler, PA/Wissahickon) also registered two points and three rebounds.
