UTICA, NY – The Utica College women's basketball team hosts Morrisville State College for Faculty/Staff Appreciation Night on Wednesday at the Clark Athletic Center Gymnasium. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Salute To Faculty: Each student-athlete on the UC women's basketball team has a chance to nominate one professor to be honored at halftime for their contributions to the student-athlete experience ... The professors will gather on the court at halftime and their names will be announced, alongside a brief paragraph about why the student-athlete submitted the nomination.
Giving Back: UC hosted "A Game for Brooks Miles" on Saturday as the Pioneers defeated Bard College ... The Pioneers and Albany Street Elementary School raised a total of $1,535.23 and is donating those funds to Lena Dorsagno ... The women's basketball team held a 50/50 raffle and a bake sale throughout the contest to raise money for the Dorsagno family ... Utica College Alum Dr. Greg Rorick '98 and his wife Angela lost their son, Brooks, shortly after he was born in 2008 from heart complications ... Angela is head coach
Michele Davis's cousin and the two of them thought up the idea for this charitable game during the summer of 2012.
Last Time Out: UC snapped a three-game losing streak by defeating Bard College 58-49 on Saturday afternoon … The Pioneers took a 17-9 lead in the first quarter and expanded the lead to 30-17 at halftime … The third quarter was the only quarter Bard outscored Utica 19-11 … UC closed the game out outscoring the Raptors 17-13 in the fourth quarter.
Ashelyne Babb (Lynn, MA/Winthrop) led the team with 12 points in a game that all nine players who played for the Pioneers scored at least two points.
Miceli Approaching Another Milestone: After recently becoming the 11
th player in program history to have 1,000 points or more (1,017) and being one of six players to have 100 + career three pointers (137)
Mary Miceli (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) needs just eight 3-pointers to move into second place on the schools all-time 3-pointers made list.
Home Sweet Home: The Pioneers remained undefeated at home with a perfect 3-0 record … The team has victories over SUNY Potsdam (72-46), R.P.I. (91-84), and Bard College (58-49) … In the next 10 games including the Morrisville game Utica plays seven games at home and looks to continue its home court success.
Leading The Way: Miceli leads the team with 14.3 points per game followed by Babb who has 12.1 points per game … Miceli also has 10 steals and nine assists so far this season … Babb has chipped in a team high 15 steals and is tied for first on the team with 12 assists.
