Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Maisch Ties His Own School Record With Nine 3's in Season Finale

UTICA, NY – Senior Conor Maisch (Kingston, NY/John A. Coleman) tied his own single game school-record with nine 3-pointers on senior night as the Utica College men's basketball team lost to visiting Alfred University 98-84 in the season finale for the Pioneers on Friday.

Maisch tied his season-high with 33 points, marking the third time this season that the sharp shooter broke the 30 point barrier.  Maisch originally set the school-record for 3-pointers in a single game earlier this season when he knocked down nine three's in a 29 point effort against SUNY New Paltz.

Junior Robert Tutein (Nanuet, NY/Nanuet) and Agim Hamiti (Prishtina, Kosovo/Syracuse Academy of Science) each added 11 points off the bench for the Pioneers.  UC senior's Aaron Nevins (Buffalo, NY/Canisius) and Chris Jeffers (Albany, NY/Bishop Maginn) both wrapped up their collegiate careers with nine points and four points, respectively.  Nevins will graduate ranked second all-time in career assists with 408 and seventh all-time in career points with 1,180.  Jeffers finishes his career with 1,024 points and ranks second all-time with 811 rebounds.

UC closes out its 2015 campaign with a 10-15 overall record and a 6-10 ledger in the Empire 8.  Alfred heads into the Empire 8 Conference Tournament riding the highs of a seven game winning streak to go along with a 17-7 overall record (10-5 Empire 8).

The visiting Saxons led the entire contest and they were guided by 22 points from leading scorer Dalton Walsh.  Tyler Seelman and Eric Adams each added 14 points, while Ryan Mahon and Mike Snyder came off the bench to record 13 and 12 points, respectively.

Both teams shot well from beyond the arc with the Pioneers connecting on 15-of-32 3-pointers.  Alfred went 13-for-23 (56.5%) from 3-point land on the evening.
Utica seniors Ian Henderson (Chateaugay, NY/Chateaugay) and Rich Smith (Albany, NY/La Salle Institute) combined for 10 points in their final collegiate game.

The Saxons opened up a 25-10 lead in the first 8:28 of the contest on 4-of-5 shooting from beyond the arc.  Alfred kept up its hot shooting throughout the first half and held a 55-39 lead as the halftime horn sounded.

Alfred went on a 17-6 run midway through the second half to earn its largest lead of the contest (25 points), 90-65, with 7:33 to go in regulation.  The Pioneers closed out the game on a 19-8 run in the final 7:02 but it proved to be too late as the Saxons earned the 14 point victory.

The Saxons finished the evening shooting 38-for-65 from the floor (58.5%).  Alfred earned 17 points off of turnovers and they also converted 18 second chance points.
