UTICA, NY (3/10/15)- The Utica College women's lacrosse team returns to action Wednesday as it travels to Saratoga, NY to play the Thoroughbreds of Skidmore College. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT: The Pioneers (1-1) are coming off a 12-10 win, their first win of the season, over Clarkson University last Wednesday... Senior
Megan Kane (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) led the way for the Pioneers with five goals, one assist, nine ground balls and caused six turnovers... Sophomore
Rebecca Plunkett (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park) found the back of the net three times, and added five ground balls and six draw controls… Junior
Courtney Wheeler (Ava, NY/Rome Free Academy) chipped in with two goals of her own and senior
Morgan DuPont (Wynantskill, NY/Averill Park) and sophomore
Xiomara Rodriguez (Bay Shore, NY/Brentwood) scored one goal apiece to round out the scoring… Junior
Kells Casey (Sandwich, MA/Kimball Union Academy) made ten saves in her first career start.
HERE COMES KANE: In her last two games senior
Megan Kane (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) has scored seven of the Pioneers' 18 goals... She opened her final season with two goals in the 8-6 overtime loss to Oswego followed by netting five goes against Clarkson... She currently leads the team in almost every category including goals, assists, points, total shots, shots on goal, ground balls, caused turnovers and draw controls.
COMING BACK STRONG: Sophomore
Rebecca Plunkett (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park) has picked up right where she left off last season... She is currently second on the team in goals (five) and has a 1.000 shots on goal percentage... So far this season Plunkett has picked up five ground balls and has eight draw controls.
ADDING TO THE EXCITEMENT: Senior
Morgan DuPont (Wynantskill, NY/Averill Park) and junior
Courtney Wheeler (Ava, NY/Rome Free Academy) have each added two goals to the team so far this season... DuPont has picked up four ground balls and has caused three turnovers while Wheeler has seven ground balls and has caused four turnovers.
SCOUNTING SKIDMORE: The Thoroughbreds have outscored their opponents 32-23 through three games this season... Sophomore Tyler Phillips leads the team with nine goals and she has added one assist... Eight different players have scored for Skidmore so far this season... In their last two meetings Utica has been the victor, outscoring Skidmore 7-5 last year and 11-7 in 2013.
LOOKING AHEAD: The Pioneers return home Saturday as they host SUNY Potsdam… Game time is scheduled for 12 p.m.Â
