Women's Lax Opens Empire 8 Play on the Road

Utica, NY (3/27/15)- The Utica College women's lacrosse team will hit the road for weekend tilts against Empire 8 Conference rivals Stevens Institute of Technology and Hartwick College… The two contests will also be the first E8 action the Pioneers will see this year… The Stevens game is scheduled for Friday at 2 p.m. while the Hartwick game will start at 1 p.m. the following day.

LAST TIME OUT: Utica earned a convincing home win over SUNY Poly on Tuesday with an 18-3 victory… The Pioneers opened the contest with 12 straight goals, equaling their previous season high in the process… Freshman Brook Miller led the way with a career-high four goals, the second-highest mark a Pioneer has reached in a game this year… Junior Courtney Wheeler (Ava, NY/Rome Free Academy) and sophomore Rebecca Plunkett (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park) tied for second in goals with three apiece… Five total players scored at least two goals in the contest for UC.

DUPONT MASTER OF THE ASSIST: Senior Morgan DuPont (Wynantskill, NY/Averill Park) equaled her previous single-game career-high with six assists against SUNY Poly, which is also the most assists a Pioneer has recorded in a game this year… The last time DuPont had six assists in a game was April 26, 2014 in a 12-4 UC win over E8 foe Houghton College… DuPont has 83 career assists, the most in program history… She also has 126 career points, passing 2006 graduate Lauren Schreiner for sole-possession of eighth place on the all-time points list.

KANE SHATTERING RECORDS: Megan Kane (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) had three points against SUNY Poly (two goals, one assist), pushing her season total to 23, which leads the team… Kane now has 143 career points, passing 2004 graduate Kat Glynn to move into sole possession of fifth all-time on the career points list… Kane also has 118 career goals and needs just ten more to tie Glynn with the fourth-most in program history.

AGAINST STEVENS: UC has never beaten Stevens, owning a 0-7 record against the Ducks since 2008… Utica came the closest it's ever come to unseating Stevens last year, scoring 10 goals to the Ducks' 11… Megan Kane (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) and Rebecca Plunkett (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park) each scored three goals while Morgan DuPont (Wynantskill, NY/Averill Park) handed out five assists.

SCOUTING STEVENS: The Ducks are coming off of an 18-5 home victory over Hartwick from this past Sunday… Stevens is 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the E8… Stevens is led by junior Erika Wilcox, who has 20 goals (second in the E8) and five assists for 25 points (third), all of which are team highs.

AGAINST HARTWICK: Utica is 7-7 all-time against Hartwick, winning seven straight games against the Hawks… The Pioneers have outscored Hartwick 156-142 in their series… In their last game against the Hawks, UC won 16-9… Morgan DuPont (Wynantskill, NY/Averill Park) led the way with seven points (two goals, five assists) and Megan Kane (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) and Courtney Wheeler (Ava, NY/Rome Free Academy) each scored five goals.
