ROCHESTER, NY – The Utica College men's tennis team lost, 9-0, Saturday to Empire 8 rival Nazareth College at the Nazareth Tennis Courts. The Pioneers were led by
Matt Rogers (East Syracuse, NY/Bishop Ludden) who recorded the only scores in singles play.
Rogers lost in the number two slot (6-2, 6-4,) before teaming up with
Joe Castellitto (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac) in doubles play in for an 8-1 defeat.
Dominick Trimarchi (Albany, NY/Christian Brothers Academy) and
Tyler Hickey (Brooklyn, NY/Xavier) grabbed one point as they partnered up in doubles competition falling 8-1.
UC falls to 0-3 on the season and 0-1 in Empire 8 play. Utica remains on the road Sunday as it crosses town to face St. John Fisher College in another Empire 8 battle. The match is set for 2:30 p.m. at the Mendon Racquet and Pool Club (Pittsford, NY).
The Golden Flyers pick up their first win of the season moving their overall mark to 1-7 including a 1-0 mark in conference play. Naz returns to action next Saturday to challenge Fisher (4 p.m.) at home.
