UTICA, NY- The Utica College volleyball team heads to the SUNY Potsdam tournament this weekend looking to add to the win column.  UC will play four games in two days against the likes of Potsdam, University of Maine at Fort Kent, SUNY Canton, and Johnson State.  Action kicks off Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. against Potsdam.
 
LAST TIME OUT: Utica picked up its first win of the season in its home opener as the Pioneers downed SUNY Cobleskill 3-0… Freshman Hannah Voss (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) led the Pioneers with 12 kills and added 13 digs, while sophomore Samantha Hoerning (Farmingville, NY/Sachem East) tallied ten kills...  Senior Laura Homer-Gunther (Sauquoit, NY/Sauquoit) had an impressive night as she had 11 kills, seven blocks, and two aces...  Homer-Gunther also racked up a .611 hitting percentage on the evening...  Classmate Lora Allen (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville) led all players with 28 assists, and chipped in with 14 digs, while Alexis Lyon (Prospect, NY/Holland Patent) collected a team-best 24 digs.
 
IN THE EMPIRE 8: Freshman Hannah Voss (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) leads the league with 3.83 kills per set… She ranks first on the team with 46 kills and has added 42 digs… Senior Laura Homer-Gunther (Sauquoit, NY/Sauquoit) is second in the Empire 8 Conference with a .440 hitting percentage… She has tallied 34 kills and just one hitting error in 75 attempts… Freshman Nicole Herringshaw (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) is tied with Homer-Gunther for fourth in the E8 with .69 blocks per set…  She also leads the conference with seven solo blocks… Senior Alexis Lyon (Prospect, NY/Holland Patent) ranks first in the E8 in digs per set (5.63) and her 90 total digs are first on the squad.
 
SCOUTING POTSDAM: The Bears are 1-3 after their first weekend of play… Potsdam defeated Paul Smith's 3-0 before falling to Canton, Plattsburgh State and SUNY Poly by 3-0 scores… Stephanie Maddox has recorded a team-high 26 kills and nine service aces, while Allie Romaniello leads the team with 42 digs. 
 
SCOUTING FORT KENT: The Bengals are 7-2 on the season and are currently in the midst of a seven game winning streak… After falling in the first two games of the season, Fort Kent has not lost a set, winning the last seven contests 3-0… Brianna Krystek has racked up a team-leading 104 kills on the season, while adding 12 blocks.
 
SCOUTING SUNY CANTON: The Roos have yet to lose a game as they have jumped out to a quick 5-0 start… Morgan Bills leads the squad with 40 kills, 14 service aces, and eight blocks… Last year Utica fell to Canton 3-0 in both meetings. 
 
SCOUTING JOHNSON STATE: The Badgers are 1-2 so far on the season… Their lone win came by way of a 3-2 victory over Pine Manor last Saturday… Breanna Laughlin leads the team with 35 kills and 16 service aces, while also adding 25 digs.
 
LOOKING AHEAD: The Pioneers remain on the road next weekend as they travel to Oswego, NY for the Oswego State Invitational… UC will take on Oswego at 4 p.m. on Friday to kick off the weekend.
