Field Hockey Looks to Bounce Back at Geneseo

Utica, NY- The Utica College field hockey team will look to snap its three game losing streak as it prepares for a non-conference matchup. The Pioneers will travel to Geneseo for a Wednesday night game against SUNY Geneseo, game time is set for 5 p.m.
 
LAST TIME OUT: The Pioneers (1-4) lost both of their games this past weekend... On Saturday they fell 3-1 against RPI, and dropped a 2-0 decision on Sunday to the nationally ranked No. 20 University of Rochester... Colleen Dowling (Fairport, NY/Fairport) tallied the lone goal of the weekend for the Pioneers in the loss to RPI... The goal marked her first of the season.
 
ROCK IN NET: Senior Kells Casey (Sandwich, MA/Kimball Union Academy) is currently averaging 8.8 saves per game, which is good enough for second in the Empire 8 conference... Casey has a .772 save percentage and a goals against average of 2.68.
 
LEADING THE WAY: Senior Colleen Dowling (Fairport, NY/Fairport) has been leading the Pioneer offense so far this year... Dowling is tied for the team lead in goals (one), and has a team-best four points... She is sixth in the Empire 8 in shots per game (3.8), and has taken a total of 19 shots on the year... Freshmen Brittany Evans (East Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse Minoa) and Rebecca Kauffman (Mount Joy, PA/Linden Hall), and sophomore Maria Orsino (Sauquoit, NY/Sauquoit) have also made an impact for the Pioneers as each of them have scored one goal on the season.
 
TOUGH SCHEDULE: Two of Utica's four loses have come against teams currently in the national rankings… UC fell to University of Rochester, which is currently ranked No. 15 in the latest national poll… The Pioneers also lost to SUNY New Paltz, which is just outside this week's top-20 as it received 95 total points in the national poll.
 
SCOUTING GENESEO: The Knights are now 1-3 after losing three straight games to RPI, William Smith, and Skidmore... Freshman Gabriella Clare leads the team with three goals and two assists on the year... Senior Sarah Malinak has also made an impact with two goals and one assist.
 
AGAINST GENESEO: The Pioneers are 10-2 against the Knights in head-to-head meetings dating back to 2004... Between these two teams, the visiting team has won four of the last six games.
 
LOOKING AHEAD: The Pioneers return to action Saturday, as they travel to Elmira for their Empire 8 opener… Game time is set for 1 p.m.
