Game Recap: Field Hockey |

UC Tops Oneonta in Double OT Thriller

UTICA, NY – Freshman forward Brittany Evans (East Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse Minoa) made her first collegiate goal count as she netted the game-winner in double overtime to lift the Utica College field hockey team to a 2-1 victory over visiting Oneonta State Saturday at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.  The Evans' goal came in the 86th minute, after she forced an Oneonta turnover, and ripped home the game-winner from 12 yards out.

The Pioneers (1-1) also benefitted from an early goal by freshman Rebecca Kauffman (Mount Joy, PA/Linden Hall) –the first of her collegiate career – to take a 1-0 advantage just 56 seconds into the contest.  Senior Colleen Dowling (Fairport, NY/Fairport) assisted on the Pioneers' opening goal.

UC senior goalie Kells Casey (Sandwich, MA/Kimball Union Academy) was able to keep Oneonta off the board for the majority of the contest until Hannah Hayward knotted the score at 1-1 at the 60:47 ledger.  Casey finished the day with seven saves for Utica.

Utica earned a 15-9 advantage in shots on the day, while Oneonta (0-2) won the draw control battle (10-7).

The Pioneers return to action on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Gaetano Stadium when they take on New Paltz on day two of the UC Field Hockey Invitational.
