UTICA, NY – Freshman forward
Brittany Evans (East Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse Minoa) made her first collegiate goal count as she netted the game-winner in double overtime to lift the Utica College field hockey team to a 2-1 victory over visiting Oneonta State Saturday at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium. The Evans' goal came in the 86
th minute, after she forced an Oneonta turnover, and ripped home the game-winner from 12 yards out.
The Pioneers (1-1) also benefitted from an early goal by freshman
Rebecca Kauffman (Mount Joy, PA/Linden Hall) –the first of her collegiate career – to take a 1-0 advantage just 56 seconds into the contest. Senior
Colleen Dowling (Fairport, NY/Fairport) assisted on the Pioneers' opening goal.

Kells Casey (Sandwich, MA/Kimball Union Academy) was able to keep Oneonta off the board for the majority of the contest until Hannah Hayward knotted the score at 1-1 at the 60:47 ledger. Casey finished the day with seven saves for Utica.
Utica earned a 15-9 advantage in shots on the day, while Oneonta (0-2) won the draw control battle (10-7).
The Pioneers return to action on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Gaetano Stadium when they take on New Paltz on day two of the UC Field Hockey Invitational.
