Volleyball Drops Pair on Day 2 at Cortland Tournament

CORTLAND, NY – The Utica College volleyball team fell in the final day of the SUNY Cortland Tournament as the Pioneers dropped a pair of 3-0 decisions to Buffalo State and host Cortland.  Senior Alexis Lyon (Prospect, NY/Holland Patent) was named to the All-Tournament team for her impressive play on the weekend.

Freshman Hannah Voss (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) once again led the Utica attack as she recorded 11 kills to go along with her nine digs.  Senior Laura Homer-Gunther (Sauquoit, NY/Sauquoit) and junior Brandi Blaszak (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro) each had four kills, while senior Alexis Lyon (Prospect, NY/Holland Patent) compiled a team-best 19 digs.  Classmate Lora Allen (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville) led the squad with 13 assists and two service aces, while Andreana Kroup (Gloversville, NY/Gloversville) and Leah Octave (New Windsor, NY/Cornwall) each added seven digs. 
 
Utica 0, Cortland 3- Game Two Final
Hannah Voss (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) collected ten kills to mark the third straight contest in which she finished in double digits in kills.  Brandi Blaszak (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro) and Laura Homer-Gunther (Sauquoit, NY/Sauquoit) combined for 15 kills, while Lora Allen (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville) had a team-high 27 assists.  Alexis Lyon (Prospect, NY/Holland Patent) led the squad with 18 digs, followed by Allen (14) and Voss (11).
 
The Pioneers return to action Wednesday as they host SUNY Cobleskill in their home opener.  Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
