UTICA, NY – The nationally-ranked No. 15 Utica College men's hockey team skated to a 0-0 overtime tie against visiting Oswego State at the Utica Memorial Auditorium on Friday night. Utica sophomore goalie
Michael Fredrick (Lethbridge, Alberta/Brooks Bandits (AJHL)) stopped 35 shots and earned his second collegiate shut out as the visiting Lakers outshot the Pioneers 35-26 on the afternoon.
The Pioneers moved their record to 8-3-2 overall and are now unbeaten in six straight games as they prepare wrap up a four game home stand back at the Aud against Buffalo State on Saturday night at 7 p.m. Saturday nigth's game against the Bengals will be broadcast on the radio locally at WTLB 99.1 FM/1310 AM (ESPN Radio) by Dave Peroni and UC alum Ray Biggs. Both teams went 0-for-2 on the power-play on the afternoon. The Pioneers earned a power-play in the second and third periods, but could not convert with a man-advantage. Utica also outshot the Lakers 7-3 in the five minute overtime period, but Oswego goalie Matt Zawadzki stopped all seven Pioneer shots as the Lakers record moved to 7-5-2 overall on the year. Zawadzki finished the night with 26 saves.
Oswego and UC have now tied in three of their last four meetings, including a 4-4 tie in front of the largest crowd in Division III men's hockey history (7,047 fans) last season at the Frozen Dome Classic at Syracuse University's Carrier Dome.
Oswego leads the all-time series advantage 12-6-3 over the Pioneers. Tonight's game also marked the first 0-0 tie in the 15 year history of the UC men's hockey program.
Oswego travels to Nazareth College on Saturday to take on the Golden Flyers at 7 p.m.
