UTICA, NY- The Utica College field hockey team dropped its second consecutive one-goal game, this time falling to visiting SUNY Geneseo 1-0 in non-conference action Thursday evening.
UC falls to 4-12 on the year and looks to bounce back Saturday as it wraps up home play against Empire 8 opponent, Elmira College. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m. Five of the Pioneers' losses this season have come by just one goal.
Geneseo's Cara Stafford scored the game's only goal at 19:09 of the first half. Stafford wound up alone in front of the Utica net. She was able to pull the ball around Utica goalkeeper
Samantha Whitehouse (Greenwich, NY/Greenwich) and shoot towards the open cage. Whitehouse got a stick on it, but it was not enough as the ball bounced off the inside of the left post for Stafford's ninth tally of the season.
Despite sustained pressure in the second half, the Pioneers were not able to get the equalizer as the Knights held on for the victory. Whitehouse finished with six saves in net, while junior
Jordan Noga (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro) tallied her seventh defensive save of the season. She now holds the school record for defensive saves in a single-season. Geneseo's Nicole Gregg made four saves in the shutout.
