Men's Soccer Closes out the Season at Nazareth

The Utica College men's soccer team will play its last regular season contest this Saturday. The Pioneers will be on the road to play conference rival Nazareth College. The game is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT: The Pioneers lost 2-0 in their home finale against St. John Fisher last Saturday (October 22nd).  Fisher's Tyler Randall scored a goal early in the first half, and Jake Gentile recorded another goal for the Cardinals in the second half. With the loss, the Pioneers fell to 2-12-1 overall and 1-4-1 in the Empire 8 this season.

LEADING THE WAY: Senior Owen Gillam (Bristol, CT/Bristol) leads the team in goals this season with five.  Junior Bita Gazashvili (Tiblisi, Georgia) has recorded a team high of three assists, and has scored four goals this season. Gillam and Gazashvili are tied for first on the team, both recroding a total of 11 points on the year.

BLOCKING THE WAY: Goalkeeper Matthew Milograno (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro) stopped nine shots last game against St. John Fisher. He is leading the Empire 8 in both total saves with 82 and average saves per game with 6.83. His best performance of the year so far came against Houghton College where he recorded 19 saves (October 15th).

SCOUTING NAZARETH: The Golden Flyers are 5-8-2 overall, but they have not won an Empire 8 Conference game yet this season (0-4-2 in conference).  Nazareth defeated Cazenovia College 5-2 in their last contest.  The Flyers have scored a total of 20 goals this season.  Senior Lucas Bennett has scored a team high of five goals this season. The Nazareth goalkeepers (Brian Wilkin, Nate Ripic) have made a combined total of 91 saves this season, which is second best in the Empire 8.  Wilkin has 44 saves this year while Ripic has 47.

AGAINST THE FLYERS: The Pioneers have not defeated Nazareth on the road once in the last 14 years. In last year's matchup the Pioneers shutout the Golden Flyers 6-0 at home.  Shane Ruffing (Rochester, NY/Westborough) scored two goals in that game while Owen Gillam (Bristol, CT/Bristol), Marcel Dupuis (Hannacroix, NY/Greenville), Jordan Senay (Lockport, NY/Lockport), and Gustaf Peterson each scored a goal of their own. Nick Hallet recorded six saves in the net for the team to help secure the win.
