UTICA, NY- The Utica College volleyball team will close out the 2016 regular season this weekend as it travels to Houghton, NY. UC will play four non-conference opponents this Friday and Saturday in the Houghton Tournament. The Pioneers will first faceoff against the SUNY Cortland Red Dragons on Friday at 4 p.m., followed by a matchup against Marywood University at 8 p.m. On Saturday, Utica will take on Hiram College at 11 a.m. and then Keuka College at 1 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT: The Pioneers dropped a pair of 3-0 decisions to Ithaca College and Houghton College in the Empire 8 Conference pod last weekend… Senior
Brandi Blaszak (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro) led the team with a total of 12 kills on the day... Sophomores
Nicole Herringshaw (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) and
Hannah Voss (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) both recorded nine kills in Saturday's action… Freshman
Megan Weiss (Windsor, CT/Northwest Catholic) led the team with 19 assists...
Voss added 15 assists of her own to go along with her 21 digs.
LEADING THE WAY: After recording 12 kills last Saturday, Blaszak now has a team-high 228 kills so far this season... Last week, she became the first player in program history to rack up 1,000 kills in a career… Voss is leading the team in assists with 358, and she also has 170 kills this season.
SCOUTING SUNY CORTLAND: The Red Dragons are 16-13 overall and 3-7 in the SUNYAC Conference... SUNY Cortland has 1,133 total kills this season, which ranks third in the SUNYAC Conference... Junior Courtney Silberer leads the team in kills (277), while sophomore Alexandra Graff leads the team in with 542 digs.
SCOUTING MARYWOOD UNIVERSITY: Marywood is 14-16 overall and they are 7-3 in the CSAC Conference... The team is right now on a role winning seven out of their last eight games... Marywood has a total of 980 kills this season... Most of their kills have come from freshman Peri Sheeren (245 kills)… They are ranked second, in the CSAC Conference in blocks (141.5 total blocks)… Freshman Katherine McGrath has a team-high 45 blocks.
SCOUTING HIRAM COLLEGE: Hiram College is 14-7 overall and 3-4 in the North Coast Athletic Conference… Senior Marissa Jay leads the team and ranks second in the conference with 374 kills... Senior Claire Maier leads the team in assists with 799.
SCOUTING KEUKA COLLEGE: The Wolf Pack are 12-10 overall and 7-6 in the NEAC Conference... Keuka has 917 kills, 1,090 digs, and 848 assists this season... Senior Tally McDonald has a team-high 163 kills... Sophomore Alyssa Rex has 702 assists, and senior Kate Burke leads the team with 261 digs.
