The Utica College women's soccer team heads to Brockport Tuesday to take on the Golden Eagles. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT: Utica lost 2-0 against Empire 8 opponent Nazareth on Saturday. The loss drops the Pioneers to 1-9 overall and 1-3 in the Empire 8 Conference. UC ended their seven game losing streak after beating Elmira 4-1 on Sept. 24, but four day later (Sept. 28) the team was shut out at home against Ithaca 7-0 and lost again three days later to Nazareth.
LEADING THE WAY: Sophomore
Jenna Mazza (Frankfort, NY/Sauquoit Valley) still leads the team in goals scored with three. Junior
Keri Berkowitz (Racine, WI/Racine Saint Catherine's) leads the team with four assists, and she has also scored two goals this season.
EMPIRE 8 PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Freshman goalie
Allison Wagner (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) was named the Empire 8 Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday after recording 28 saves over the course of two games last week. Wagner has posted 81 saves this season and she leads the Empire 8 Conference in saves per game (8.75).
SCOUTING BROCKPORT: The Golden Eagles women's soccer team has a 5-3-1 overall record and a 2-2 record in the SUNYAC Conference, but the team has lost two out of their last three games. In their last contest, Brockport lost to Oneonta 3-0 on Saturday.
AGAINST THE GOLDEN EAGLES: The Pioneers are 0-2 against Brockport in the past two seasons. Last year's matchup, against the Golden Eagles, was the kickoff and home opener of the Pioneers' soccer season. The game was scoreless in the first half, but just 44 seconds in the second half, Chelsea Stahl scored the first and game-winning goal for the Golden Eagles.
LOOKING AHEAD: The Pioneers will head to Brockport tomorrow, and then they will be back home this Saturday to play SUNY Canton.
