UTICA, NY- SUNY Oneonta used a 23-point third quarter to earn a 47-44 come-from-behind victory over Utica College in women's basketball action Thursday evening at the Harold T. Clark Athletic Center.
The visitors outscored Utica 23-7 in the third quarter, including a 13-0 run over the final 3:28 to take control of the game. The Pioneers rebounded in the fourth quarter, outscoring Oneonta 18-10 over the final ten minutes, however it was not enough as the Red Dragons held on for their first win of the season.
Free throws were the difference as Utica was just 4-for-15 from the line, while Oneonta was 16-of-25 from the charity strip. The Oneonta bench also outscored Utica's reserves 15-7 on the evening.
Junior
Ashelyne Babb (Lynn, MA/Winthrop) led the Pioneers with her first career double-double as she netted ten points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Babb also dished out five assists for the second game in a row, and registered five steals on the evening. Junior
Amanda Henderson (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph by the Sea) finished with nine points on 3-of-8 shooting from behind the arc.
Sophomore
Rachel Hunter (West Islip, NY/West Islip) netted eight points and added five boards, while
Alaina Tripp (Clyde, NY/Clyde-Savannah) had seven rebounds and five points.
Ashley Mayo (Nanuet, NY/Nanuet) finished with five points, five rebounds, and one steal.
The Pioneers look to rebound Sunday as they host cross-town rival, SUNY Poly. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
