BUFFALO, NY- The Utica College men's basketball team dropped a close one Saturday afternoon as it fell to Goucher College 67-66 in non-conference action at the Medaille Tournament.
Goucher scored the winning basket with just 14 seconds remaining in regulation to pick up its first win of the season. Utica falls to 0-3 on the year. The Pioneers will look to rebound Tuesday as they take on cross town rival, SUNY Poly in their home opener. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Clark Gymnasium.
Utica jumped out to a 23-8 lead midway through the first half, and went on to hold a 38-28 ledger after the first 20 minutes of action. The Gophers rebounded in the second half, outscoring Utica 39-28 to earn the one-point victory.
Ivan Iton (Ossining, NY/Ossining) led Utica with 24 points and eight rebounds, while
Agim Hamiti (Prishtina, Kosovo/Syracuse Academy of Science) totaled 12 points and dthree boards in 14 minutes of action off the bench. Junior
Christian Rodriguez (Queens, NY/Cayuga Community College) had a team-best two blocks and two steals. Rodriguez also chipped in with six points, while
Hunter Remley (Cranford, NJ/Cranford),
Justin Mayers (Hastings, NY/Hastings on the Hudson), and
Kyler Mower (Richfield Springs, NY/Richfield Springs) each had five points.
