Utica, NY – The Utica College men's basketball team fell to Misericordia University on Friday, 98-76, at the Clark Athletic Center Gymnasium. Utica freshman
Hunter Remley (Cranford, NJ/Cranford) recorded a career-high in points, leading the team with 20 on the night.
The Pioneers record now stands at 0-6 on the season while the visiting Cougars improved to 5-1 overall.
Misericordia jumped out to a 14-6 lead just 5:33 into the contest. UC answered with a 10-5 run in a span of 3:58 later in the half to make the score 29-28, with six minutes remaining before halftime. The visiting team closed the first half with a 12-6 run in the final 2:31 to enter halftime with a 46-38 lead. Remley led Utica in scoring with 12 at the half, as
Ivan Iton (Ossining, NY/Ossining) added 11 points and six rebounds of his own.
As the second half began, Misericordia took a 58-41 lead after a 12-5 run in just 2:47 with 17:13 left on the clock.
Agim Hamiti (Prishtina, Kosovo/Syracuse Academy of Science) sparked a 12-2 run over 4:45 to cut the lead to four, making the score 60-56. Hamiti scored seven points during the run for the Pioneers. The Cougars then took control of the game with a 20-4 run in the span of 5:03 to make the score 80-60. Misericordia was able to hold on, earning the 22-point victory.
Remley recorded a team-high of 20 points in the game, going 5-for-6 from 3-point territory. Hamiti played well off the bench, finishing with a season-high of 16 points, along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Ivan Iton (Ossining, NY/Ossining) has scored double-digits in all six games this season after tallying 14 points and nine rebounds in the game.
Freshman
Jerome Brabham (Utica, NY/Utica Notre Dame) set career-highs in points, assists, and rebounds in just his second career start with 13 points, four assists, and four rebounds. Freshman
Jake Kulakowski (Brewerton, NY/Central Square) recorded his first collegiate points and rebounds in the game as he finished with two points and six boards. The Pioneers bench outscored the visiting team's reserves, 39-19.
Jason Kenny led Misericordia with a game-high of 28 points, six boards and six assists. Kenny also shot 10-for-10 from the free throw line. Tre Fields led the team in rebounding, finishing with 17 points and eight rebounds. The Cougars scored 46 points in the paint on the night.
The Pioneers will travel to face SUNY Canton on December 6
th. The contest is scheduled to tip-off at 7 p.m.
