Utica, NY – The Utica College women's basketball team head on the road Friday to face Morrisville State College. The game is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
Last Time Out: The Pioneers lost a close game at home on Wednesday to RPI, 51-47. RPI took advantage of its chances at the free throw line towards the end of the game to earn the four-point win. UC's
Ashley Mayo (Nanuet, NY/Nanuet) was the leading scorer in the contest, as she finished with 16 points and six rebounds.
Rachel Hunter (West Islip, NY/West Islip) also scored in double figures, as she recorded 10 points and four boards.
Team Leaders: Mayo is the team's leading scorer as she currently averages 12.8 points per game.
Ashelyne Babb (Lynn, MA/Winthrop) is second on the team in scoring with 12.1 points per game. Babb is also the Pioneers' leading rebounder, passer and defender with averages of 6.4 rebounds, four assists, and three steals per game. She currently leads the Empire 8 in total steals so far this season with 24.
Freshman Spotlight: Nicolette Conkin (Los Altos, CA/Homestead) has started each of the last four games for Utica during her freshman campaign. Since earning a starting role she has averaged 7.5 points per game. In her second career start against Misericordia (12/3/16) Conkin scored a career high of 13 points. In the Pioneers' most recent game against RPI (12/7/16) she tied her career-high of six rebounds and tallied a career-high of four steals in the game.
Scouting Morrisville: The Morrisville State Mustangs are currently 4-3 overall this season. In their last contest, the Mustangs fell to SUNY Cobleskill by a score of 64-56. The team's leading scorer in the game was Tori Rockefeller as she recorded 14 points off the bench. Morrisville shot 6-for-27 from behind the 3-point arc in the contest and they were outrebounded by Cobleskill, 52-39. Jordan Anderson is currently the leading scorer and passer on the team, as she averages 14.9 points and 5.9 assists per game. The Mustangs' top rebounder is Haley Kilmartin with an average of 7.7 boards per game.
Against Morrisville: The Pioneers have only faced Morrisville State one time over the past five seasons. The lone matchup between these two teams came last season, as Utica defeated the Mustangs, 60-58. Graduate,
Mary Miceli (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle), led the Pioneers to victory with a game-high of 20 points.
Ashelyne Babb (Lynn, MA/Winthrop) finished with 13 points and team-highs of seven boards and four steals in the game. Jordan Anderson was the top scorer for the Mustangs, finishing with 18 points. The Pioneer bench outscored the opponents reserves 24-7 in the game.
