UC Women Set to Host Play 4Kay Game Tuesday

UTICA, NY - The Utica College women's basketball team is set to host its annual Play 4Kay game for breast cancer awareness as it takes on St. John Fisher College Tuesday night at 8 p.m. Play 4Kay is a nation-wide breast cancer awareness initiative that is led by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association [WBCA].

Play 4Kay: The 2016 Play 4Kay initiative is an opportunity for a nation of coaches to raise breast cancer awareness and funds for research on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond … The Pioneers will dawn pink uniforms and a 50/50 raffle and bake sale will also take place during the game with proceeds benefitting breast cancer awareness ... The Pioneers have hosted this event since 2009, and to date have raised $2,340.72 for the Perfect Fit Boutique located in Faxton-St. Luke's Hospital, as well as local individuals fighting breast cancer … The Pioneers also teamed up with the campus group College's Against Cancer which will host a bake sale in White Hall 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Tuesday, with all proceeds benefiting the Play 4Kay initiative.

Welcome Home: Six of the Pioneers eight wins this season have come at the friendly confines of the Clark Athlete Center Gymnasium … Utica is currently 8-13 overall and 3-9 in conference play … The Pioneers sit in a tie for sixth place in the conference standings.

Leading the Way: Senior Mary Miceli (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) leads the Pioneers averaging 13.4 points per game … Alongside Miceli, sophomore Ashelyne Babb (Lynn, MA/Winthrop) averages 11.7 points per game … Miceli is sixth in the conference in three-pointers per game (1.8) and ninth in free throw percentage (.663) … Babb is second in the conference in steals per game (2.5) and is tenth in the conference in free throw percentage (.641).

Moving On Up: Mary Miceli (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) moved into seventh place on the College's all-time scoring list on Friday night, as she passed Pioneer Hall of Famer Daphne Selby '79, and now has 1,198 career points … Miceli needs 43 more points to catch Mallory Davis '09 for sixth on the all-time list … Miceli also has 160 career 3-pointers, good for second on the College's all-time list. 

Helping Out: The Pioneers have Ashley Mayo (Nanuet, NY/Nanuet), Alaina Tripp (Clyde, NY/Clyde-Savannah), Calyspo Carty, and Rachel Hunter (West Islip, NY/West Islip) to help out on offense as they all average over six points per game … Ashley Mayo (Nanuet, NY/Nanuet) is third on the team averaging 9.3 points per game while Alaina Tripp (Clyde, NY/Clyde-Savannah) is fourth on the team averaging 7.0 points per game … Calyspo Carty is fifth on the team averaging 6.2 points per game and Rachel Hunter (West Islip, NY/West Islip) is sixth on the team averaging 6.1 points per game.

Crashing The Boards: Alaina Tripp (Clyde, NY/Clyde-Savannah) and Calyspo Carty have done the majority of the rebounding for the Pioneers this season … Tripp leads the team with an average of 5.9 per game ... Carty has 116 rebounds total (5.5 per game) .... Ashelyne Babb (Lynn, MA/Winthrop) is third on the team in rebounds with 102 total (4.9 per game).

Last Time Out: This past Saturday the Pioneers lost to Empire 8 conference opponent Houghton College 73-52 … Sophomore Alaina Tripp (Clyde, NY/Clyde-Savannah) led the team with 12 points and five rebounds.

First Meeting This Year: The Pioneers faced off against the Cardinals last Monday in Rochester, New York … Utica lost the first matchup of the season 92-60 … Ashelyne Babb (Lynn, MA/Winthrop) led the team with 21 points, four rebounds, four assists, and three steals … Utica is 2-9 against the Cardinals in the last five years.
