UTICA, NY – The Utica College men's basketball team lost at home against St. John Fisher 77-52 in an Empire 8 Conference competition on Tuesday night.
Agim Hamiti (Prishtina, Kosovo/Syracuse Academy of Science) and
Mike Cannizzo (Mechanicville, NY/Mechanicville) each tallied a team high 10 points on the night.
Utica's record dropped to 6-15 overall and 3-10 in conference play on the season, while the Cardinals improved to 16-5 overall and 10-2 in Empire 8 play. St. John Fisher has won its last four games, which were all conference games.
The Pioneers return to action Saturday as they host Empire 8 opponent Stevens in their final regular season home game. UC wraps up its season on the road as it faces Ithaca and Nazareth next Friday (2/19/16) and Saturday (2/20/16).
The Cardinals had four players with 10 or more points and were led by Alex Sausville who had a game high 24 points. Ryan Keegan was second on the team as he chipped in 16 points for Fisher.
Utica took an early lead but the Cardinals were able to take the lead 1:30 later. Fisher would not relinquish the lead again as it outscored Utica 44-31 in the first half and 33-21 in the second half.
Carl Taylor (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) had nine points and a team high seven rebounds while
Seamus McHugh (Latham, NY/Shaker) tallied nine points for the Pioneers.
Justin Mayers (Hastings, NY/Hastings on the Hudson) had six points on the night for Utica.
