Women's Lacrosse Hits the Road For First Time this Season Saturday

UTICA, NY – The Utica College women's lacrosse team travels to take on Clarkson University in non-conference action on Saturday. The game is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
 
Last Time Out: The Pioneers (2-1) won their second game in a row as well as their second straight game at home 13-11 against Skidmore on Wednesday … The tightly contested matchup went back and forth throughout the game … In the first the Thoroughbreds scored first before both teams traded blows ending the half tied 6-6 … In the second UC scored first before the teams went back and forth again and were tied 11-11 with about six minutes left to play … The Pioneers would take the lead for the final time off of a goal by Katlyn Scarpinella (South Setauket, NY/Ward Melville) with two minutes left to play and would get an insurance goal by Courtney Wheeler (Ava, NY/Rome Free Academy) with about a minute and a half to play.
 
Leading The Way: Junior Rebecca Plunkett (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park) leads the team with 10 points off of a team high nine goals and one assist … Plunkett is ninth in the Empire 8 conference averaging 3.00 goals per game and first in the conference in draw controls per game (6.67) … Senior Courtney Wheeler (Ava, NY/Rome Free Academy) is second on the team with nine points off of seven goals and two assists while freshman Katlyn Scarpinella (South Setauket, NY/Ward Melville) is third on the team with eight points off of seven goals and one assist … Sophomore Brooke Miller (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) is fourth on the team with six points off of three goals and a team high three assists … Freshman Mary Stuhlman (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) rounds out the top five with four points off of three goals and one assist.
 
Helping Out: Utica has 10 players with at least one point this season … Junior Amanda Chruscicki (Utica, NY/Whitesboro) and senior Colleen Dowling (Fairport, NY/Fairport) each have three points this season … Chruscicki has two goals and one assist while Dowling has one goal and two assists … Freshman Natalie Capriglione (New Milford, CT/New Milford Greenwave) has one point off of one goal while juniors Sara Hennessey (East Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse Minoa) and Tewasherake Barnes (Akwesasne, NY/Salmon River) each have one point off of one assist.
 
In The Net: Senior Kells Casey (Sandwich, MA/Kimball Union Academy) has started two games while fellow senior Erin Jacobson (Staten Island, NY/Curtis) has started in one … Kasey is third in the conference goals against average (7.50), third in the conference in save percentage (.500), and fourth in the conference in saves per game (7.50) … Casey is currently 2-0 in both starts this season.
 
Defense: Senior Briana Estabrook (Tully, NY/Tully ) leads the team in groundballs (15) and is second on the team in caused turnovers (7) … Estabrooke is second in the conference in groundballs per game (5.00) and is fifth in the conference in caused turnovers per game (2.33) … Junior Maggie Notter (Clifton Springs, NY/Midlakes) leads the team in caused turnovers (9) and is third in the conference in caused turnovers per game (3.00).
 
Scouting Clarkson: The Golden Knights are 1-1 overall so far this season … Clarkson lost the season opener 15-5 to SUNY Cortland while defeating Oswego State 9-7 … The Golden Knights are led by Christine Wright (nine points off of five goals and four assists) and Ashley Flick (six points off of six goals) … In the net for Clarkson is freshman Samantha Gladd (1-1 record with a 12.15 goals against average, 16 saves, and a save percentage of .444) and freshman Carrie Yurkon (5.64 goals against average, three saves, and a .600 save percentage).
 
Against The Golden Knights: The Pioneers are 4-2 against Clarkson since 2010 including being 3-1 at home and 1-1 on the road … Last year Utica downed the Golden Knights 12-10 at home … UC last lost to Clarkson on the road in the 2013 season 12-11 in a triple overtime thriller.
