AUBURNDALE, FL – The Utica College baseball team fell in both games against McDaniel College on Thursday. UC fell to 0-7 so far this season while McDaniel improved to 12-1. The team is back in action on Friday against MCLA at 9:30 a.m. for one nine-inning game.
McDaniel College 4, Utica 0-Final Game One The Pioneers had five hits on the game but their three errors hurt the team in the end. The Green Terror struck in the third inning when Cameron Bahr singled to centerfield scoring Sean Sivo for the only earned run of the game. McDaniel College struck for one run in the sixth and two runs in the seventh to secure the victory.
Zach Kronick went all seven innings in a shutout performance striking out nine and walking one.
Alex Rocci (Utica, NY/Notre Dame) got the start for UC and went all seven innings striking out seven, walking one, and giving up one earned run on the day.
McDaniel College 7, Utica 6-Final Game Two Utica lost an extremely hard fought game in walk off fashion in the second game. The Pioneers struck first when
Matthew DeMartino (Oceanside, NY/Oceanside) doubled home
JT Ross (New York Mills, NY/New York Mills) to make it 1-0. McDaniel would tie it up in the next half inning when Cameron Bahr doubled home Marty Windisch. UC would take a 3-1 lead in the second before the Green Terror tied it up in the third and took a 6-3 lead in the fourth. The Pioneers would use a big three run fifth to tie the game 6-6. Going into the home half of the seventh inning the game was tied before Kaleb Reitz singled home the winning run.
Andrew Hofmeister got the start for McDaniel College and pitched 4.2 innings before being replaced with winning pitcher Austin Fry.
Josh Luczak (Ava, NY/RFA) got the start for Utica and put in 3.2 innings before
Gavin McCann (Highland, NY/Highland) came in to pitch three innings.
This is the first time this year that Utica has been tied with a team in the final inning and the first time this season that they have lost in walk-off fashion.
