Softball Tripped up in Florida

KISSIMMEE, FL- The Utica College softball team ran into a tough test Friday as it fell to Rowan University, 12-0, and Ramapo College, 5-4, at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, FL.

Utica 0, Rowan 12 (5 Inn.)- Game One Final
The Owls, who are currently first in the "receiving votes" category in the NFCA national poll, proved to be too much for the Pioneers as they improved to 13-5 on the year. Rowan jumped out to a 12-0 lead in the first three innings and never looked back as it won its seventh straight game.

Junior Kassidy Ogren (Albany, NY/Colonie Central) led the way for Utica as she went 2-for-2 at the plate, including one double.  Freshman Nicole Rice (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) added the other hit for UC.  Sophomore Ally Cipollini (Highland, NY/Highland) shouldered the loss.

Utica 4, Ramapo 5- Game Two Final
Utica dropped its fourth one-run game of the season as it suffered a 5-4 walk off defeat at the hands of Ramapo College.  Utica and Ramapo exchanged runs in the first three innings with the Road Runners taking a 3-2 lead into the top of the sixth when Utica broke out for two scores.  Rampo responded in the bottom of the seventh, despite having two outs, to plate the winning run.

Seniors Stephanie Siriano (Sauquoit, NY/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill), Cassie Smith (Delmar, NY/Bethlehem Central), and Abby Monroe (Watertown, NY/General Brown) led the way for the Pioneers at the plate as each totaled two hits.  Monroe had a team-high two RBIs, while Siriano also drove in a run.  Alysa Russell (Mechanicville, NY/Mechanicville), Sabrina Stransky (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place), and Madisson Williams also had hits.  Stransky allowed just one earned run in her first start in the circle this season.

Utica (3-7) looks to rebound Saturday as it takes on Skidmore College (11:15 a.m.) and Luther College (3:45 p.m.) in its final action in Florida.
