ALFRED, NY- The Utica College women's lacrosse team scored the game's first 12 goals as it cruised to a 17-7 victory over host Alfred University in Empire 8 Conference action Sunday afternoon.

With the win, the Pioneers improve to 8-5 overall and 3-2 in the E8. Utica will look to carry the momentum from its Empire 8 weekend sweep into a showdown with conference opponent Hartwick College on Wednesday evening (7 p.m.). the game will mark UC's last home game of the regular season.

Utica scored seven goals in the first 10 minutes of action and went on to add five more before the end of the half. Junior
Rebecca Plunkett (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park) led the way for the Pioneers with four goals, while classmate
Sara Hennessey (East Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse Minoa) had one goal and dished out a team-high three assists. Senior
Colleen Dowling (Fairport, NY/Fairport) and freshman
Mary Stuhlman (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) each had three goals
Courtney Wheeler (Ava, NY/Rome Free Academy) and
Noelle Capriglione (New Milford, CT/New Milford Greenwave) each had two. Freshmen
Natalie Capriglione (New Milford, CT/New Milford Greenwave) and
Katlyn Scarpinella (South Setauket, NY/Ward Melville) chipped in with one goal apiece.

Kells Casey (Sandwich, MA/Kimball Union Academy) and
Erin Jacobson (Staten Island, NY/Curtis) also helped out in the win.Â
