ALFRED, NY – The Utica College men's tennis team fell 8-1 to Empire 8 Conference opponent Alfred on Saturday.
Matt Rogers (East Syracuse, NY/Bishop Ludden) led the team with a singles victory (6-3,6-0). Utica is now 1-8 overall with a 0-6 conference record while the Saxons improved to 5-12 overall with a 2-3 conference record.
Raphael Warnon (Rock Tavern, NY/Washingtonville) won eight games while falling 6-4 in two consecutive sets while
Kevin Vo (Utica, NY/Proctor) won four games in a 2-6, 2-6 effort.
Jacob Nigolian (Syracuse, NY/Westhill) (2-6, 1-6) and
Franklin Guebara (Utica, NY/Proctor) (2-6, 1-6) both won three games in their singles matches. In doubles competition the team of Rogers and Nigolian lost 8-5 while Vo and Warnon and
Paul Litvak (Brooklyn, NY/Abraham Lincoln) and Guebara fell 8-0.
The Pioneers return to action Sunday at 12 p.m. when they take on conference opponent Ithaca College on the road.
