Alysa Russell (Mechanicville, NY/Mechanicville) of the Utica College softball team was named to the 2016 Empire 8 softball All-Tournament team, released Monday.
In two games during the tournament Russell was 5-for-7 with three runs scored, two doubles, a triple, and a home run. She led the Pioneers with a .406 batting average, six home runs, and a career-high 26 stolen bases this season.
She graduates as the career record holder in runs scored (142), stolen bases (52), total bases (339), and triples (nine). She is also second all-time in career batting average (.425) and home runs (24) and she set a new single-season record for stolen bases this year.
The Pioneers fell to Alfred 3-2 in the elimination game of the Empire 8 Conference tournament. Utica wrapped up the season with a 22-18 overall record, marking the sixth straight year UC has finished above .500.
