UTICA, NY- The Utica College volleyball team looks to get back on track Tuesday evening as it hosts Southern Vermont College in non-conference action. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT: The Pioneers are coming off a tough weekend at the University of Rochester Tournament on Friday and Saturday… UC dropped a five-set heartbreaker to Beloit College on Friday after leading the match two sets to one… Brockport was able to wear down the Pioneers in the second game of the day to take a 3-0 win… UC fought valiantly on Saturday, but dropped a pair of games to University of Rochester and SUNY Genseseo… Sophomore
Hannah Voss (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) was named to the All-Tournament team after her impressive showing that included 28 kills, 45 digs, 43 assists, and six blocks.
BLASZAK BREAKS KILLS RECORD: Over the weekend, senior
Brandi Blaszak (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro) became the College's career kills leader... She now has 859 kills to her credit and she is on pace to collect over 1,000 kills in her career… Blaszak currently leads the Pioneers with 74 kills and 87.5 points on the season, and she has also added 13 blocks.
SOPHOMORES STANDING OUT: Sophomores
Nicole Herringshaw (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse),
Hannah Voss (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) and
Leah Octave (New Windsor, NY/Cornwall) have all started the season strong for UC… Herringshaw leads the squad and ranks fifth in the conference with 26 blocks… Voss ranks first in aces (13) and second in kills (63), assists (101), and digs (70)… Octave has a team-best 119 digs.
SCOUTING SOUTHERN VERMONT: The Mountaineers are 2-6 overall and they are coming off a 1-2 weekend at the SUNY Potsdam Tournament… Southern Vermont is led by senior Brin Goldman, who has totaled 47 kills and 85 digs through seven matches… This is the first ever match up between the two teams.
LOOKING AHEAD: The Pioneers will face the Mountaineers again on Friday (7 p.m.) in the opening game of the Plattsburgh State Tournament… UC will then take on Plattsburgh and Elms on Saturday.
