UTICA, NY- For the second time in three games, the Utica College field hockey dropped a heartbreaking one-goal decision, this time falling to St. John Fisher College 1-0 in Empire 8 Conference action Saturday afternoon.
The teams played 62 minutes of scoreless action until Lexi Foley was able to break the deadlock with her team-leading third goal of the season. Emily Markarian gathered a ball on the left side of the Utica goal and pulled the defender towards her before passing to a wide-open Foley on the right post for the tap in.
Utica threatened in the waning minutes of the game, but was not able to solve the Fisher defense.
Junior
Samantha Whitehouse (Greenwich, NY/Greenwich) stopped 17 shots on the day, just one off her career-best, while Fisher's Ashley Maynard made two saves in the win. Utica had defensive saves from
Madison Babicz (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) and
Jordan Noga (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro) to keep the game within one.
Utica has two more conference home games over the next week. The Pioneers take on Hartwick at home on Tuesday (4 p.m.), before facing Stevens Institute of Technology next Saturday (10 a.m.) as part of the College's homecoming festivities.
