CLINTON, NY- The Utica College women's soccer team had one blemish as it fell to host Hamilton College, 1-0, in non-conference action Sunday afternoon. A one-goal margin is the closest margin of victory between the two teams since Oct. 14, 2009, when UC won 1-0.
After a scoreless first half, the Continentals were able to break the deadlock in the 70
th minute as Fiona Fortune netted her first collegiate goal. Fortune tapped in a centering ball at the near post off a corner kick from Katie Kreider to put Hamilton up 1-0.
That was the lone goal of the contest as both teams held strong the remainder of the game.
Allison Wagner (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) was solid in net as she made 11 saves. This marks the third time in five starts that she has made more than 10 saves. Her counterpart, Rachel Cooley, turned aside one shot for Hamilton.
UC returns to action Saturday as it takes on Elmira College as part of UC's homecoming festivities. The Empire 8 Conference matchup is scheduled for 6 p.m.
