UTICA, NY- The Utica College volleyball team travels to Elmira College on Saturday for the first Empire 8 pod of the season. UC will take on conference foes St. John Fisher College and Elmira College at 1:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. respectively.
LAST TIME OUT: UC jumped out to a two set lead but eventually fell to host Hartwick College, 3-2, in Empire 8 Conference action on Tuesday night at Lambros Arena... The Pioneers won the first two sets 25-14 and 26-24, but dropped the final three sets 25-23, 25-18 and 15-5... Utica's
Brandi Blaszak (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro) led the Pioneers with nine kills, four assists and two blocks, while
Abigail Mosenthin (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville) added six kills, 23 digs and two aces.
ATTACKING THE NET: Senior
Brandi Blaszak (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro) leads the team with 120 kills this season… She is the College's career kills record holder and needs 100 more to hit the 1,000-kill milestone for her career… Sophomore
Nicole Herringshaw (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) leads the team and ranks second in the E8 with 44 blocks… She has also added 96 kills to her credit.
HELPING OUT: Sophomore
Hannah Voss (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) leads the team with 171 assists and 21 service aces… She is also second on the squad with 100 kills and 110 digs… Classmate
Leah Octave (New Windsor, NY/Cornwall) has a team-best 197 digs, while junior
Andreana Kroup (Gloversville, NY/Gloversville) is tied with Voss with 110 digs of her own… Freshman
Megan Weiss (Windsor, CT/Northwest Catholic) is second on the squad in aces (18) and assists (157), and she has added 59 kills.
SCOUTING ST. JOHN FISHER: The Cardinals are 4-9 on the season and they are coming off a 3-1 win over D'Youville last Saturday… UC earned a thrilling 3-2 come-from-behind win against Fisher last year… The Pioneers lost the first two sets of the contest 28-26 and 25-21, before clawing back with three straight set victories (25-22, 25-14, 15-9) to earn their first win over the Cardinals in over 15 years.
SCOUTING ELMIRA: The Soaring Eagles are currently 2-2 on the year and 0-1 in the E8… They are coming off a 3-0 loss to Ithaca on Wednesday… UC fell to Elmira 3-0 last season.
LOOKING AHEAD: The Pioneers travel to SUNY Cobleskill on Wednesday for a non-conference contest…. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
