Women's Basketball Set for E8 Clash Against Fisher

UTICA, NY- The Utica College women's basketball team looks to carry its momentum into a big Empire 8 Conference match up Tuesday at home against St. John Fisher College.  Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
 
Free Pizza Slice Giveaway: There will be free pizza for all UC students with a valid UC ID (one slice per student) at halftime of the men's and women's games against Fisher Tuesday evening … The women play at 6 p.m. with the men's game scheduled for 8 p.m. 
 
Three in a Row: The Pioneers won all three conference games last week, downing Alfred University on Tuesday (69-55), Nazareth College on Thursday (62-56), and Elmira College on Saturday (65-51)… UC is now 5-9 overall and 3-2 in the Empire 8. 
 
Last Time Out: The Pioneers defeated Empire 8 opponent Elmira College 65-51 last Saturday… Junior guard Ashelyne Babb (Lynn, MA/Winthrop) led the way for Utica as she recorded 20 points, seven assists, and five rebounds… Junior Ashley Mayo (Nanuet, NY/Nanuet) also played a big role in that game as she recorded 18 points and four rebounds… Utica even had a great defensive performance in the second quarter as they only gave up six points to the Soaring Eagles. 
 
Players Standing Out:  After scoring 20 points and seven assists against Elmira, Ashelyne Babb (Lynn, MA/Winthrop) has now recorded 20 or more points and seven assists in two of the last three games… She also leads the Empire 8 Conference in assists per game (4.4) and steals per game (3.3)… She even has a .403 field goal percentage, which is fifth best in the E8… Ashley Mayo (Nanuet, NY/Nanuet) still leads the team in points (13.5 Avg./G)… She has also reached double digits in scoring in five consecutive games. 
 
Helping Out: Sophomore Rachel Hunter (West Islip, NY/West Islip) is third on the team with 9.0 points per game… She has also chipped in with 3.9 boards per contest… Junior Alaina Tripp (Clyde, NY/Clyde-Savannah) is averaging 6.6 points per game, and she is also second on the squad with 5.1 rebounds per game, while freshman Nicolette Conkin (Los Altos, CA/Homestead) rounds out the top-five in scoring with 5.4 points per game.
 
Scouting St. John Fisher: The Cardinals are 4-8 overall and are 1-2 in the Empire 8 Conference… St. John Fisher lost 68-46 at home against the Ithaca Bombers on Thursday… Cardinals' junior Caroline Robertson matched her career-high of 20 points in the loss… Robertson also shot 8-of-13 from the field and had four rebounds… The Cardinals are ranked third in the Empire 8 in scoring (63.5 Avg./G)… They are also ranked second in the conference in assists (13.55 Avg./G) and third in blocked shots (3.64 Avg./G)… Robertson is the Cardinals' top performing player as she has averaged 12.8 points per game this season. 
 
Looking Ahead: After St. John Fisher, the Pioneers remain home this Saturday to take on conference opponent Houghton College… Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
