Utica, NY – The Utica College men's basketball team lost its first Empire 8 Conference matchup of the season at home against Stevens Institute of Technology.
Carl Taylor (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) recorded season-high numbers with 13 points, seven assists, and six rebounds in the Pioneers' 91-73 loss. UC drops to 0-10 overall this season and 0-1 in Empire 8 play.
The game was neck and neck halfway through the first half as the score was 20-20, with 11:26 left before the break. Stevens (7-2, 1-0 Empire 8) pulled away with a 20-5 run over the span of eight minutes to take a 40-25 lead with just 3:26 remaining in the first. The Pioneers finished the half on an 8-4 run, as the visitors held a 44-33 lead heading into the locker room.
Kyler Mower (Richfield Springs, NY/Richfield Springs) led UC at the break with a career-high of nine points with still one half left to play.
The Ducks took control of the game with a 20-6 run to start the second half in a span of 7:36 to make the score 64-39, with 12:24 remaining in the game. Utica fought back with an explosive 10-2 run in just 54 seconds, capped off by a
Kyler Mower (Richfield Springs, NY/Richfield Springs) 4-point play, making the score 66-49 with 11:15 left in regulation. The two teams battled back and forth until the Pioneers eventually cut the lead down to 12 points after back to back baskets by
Hunter Remley (Cranford, NJ/Cranford) going into the final six minutes. However, Stevens finished strong down the final stretch of the contest and held on for the 18 point victory.

Hunter Remley (Cranford, NJ/Cranford) led UC in scoring with 16 points and added two blocks as well.
Kyler Mower (Richfield Springs, NY/Richfield Springs) finished the game with a career-high of 13 points, shooting 4-for-6 from behind the 3-point arc.
Tyler Jollie (Marlboro, NY/Marlboro) recorded a career-high of five assists in the contest and scored three points.
Jake Kulakowski (Brewerton, NY/Central Square)'s five points in Tuesday's game marks a career-high for him as well. Junior
Carl Taylor (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick)'s seven assists and six rebounds were both team-highs in the contest. The Pioneers shot their best percentages of the season, recording a field goal percentage of 40.6% and a 3-point field goal percentage of 46.2%.
Stevens was led by Evan Klimchak, as he finished with 20 points on 8-for-11 shooting. Patrick Barron added 14 points for the Ducks while Chris Cosgrove and Ryan Coffey each scored 11 of their own. Colin McKenna grabbed the most boards for the team as he finished with seven rebounds to go with his 10 points. Stevens outrebounded UC 48-31 in the contest.
The Pioneers will be back at home on Thursday for another Empire 8 matchup against Hartwick College. The game is scheduled to tip-off at 8 p.m.
