Men's Hockey Falls to #5 Oswego in Pathfinder Championship Game

OSWEGO, NY- The nationally ranked No. 5 Oswego State Lakers scored four unanswered goals to come away with a 4-1 win over the Utica College men's hockey team in the championship game of the Pathfinder Classic Saturday evening, hosted by Oswego State.

The Pioneers drop to 10-5 on the year, while Oswego improves to 12-3.  Utica will look to rebound Friday as it returns home to host the University of New England.  Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.

UC opened the scoring just 2:57 into the game as freshman Jarrod Fitzpatrick (Wakefield, MA/Northern Cyclones (EHL)) found the back of the net on the power play for his sixth of the year.

The Pioneers kept up the pressure to start the second period as they out shot the Lakers 8-0 through the first seven minutes of play, thanks in part to a 5-on-3 power play to start the period.  The Lakers weathered the storm however and were able to get the equalizer at the 14-minute mark of the second as Joey Davies netted his third of the year.

The Lakers went on to score two goals in the first 8:29 of the third period off the sticks of Shawn Hulshof and Matt Galati to take a commanding 3-1 lead.  Oswego tacked on an empty net goal just before time expired to seal the victory.  Davies finished with one goal and two assists, while Galati and Hulshof each had one goal and one assist on the evening.

Freshman goalie Patrik Virtanen (Vantaa, Finland/Lincoln (USHL)) made 33 saves in net for Utica, while Oswego's David Jacobson turned aside 25-of-26 shots for the win.  Utica was 1-for-5 on the power play, while the Lakers were held scoreless on three opportunities with the man advantage.

Junior Vince Stefan (Pittsburgh, PA/Kenai River (NAHL)) was named to the All-Tournament team for his stellar play over the weekend.
