Field Hockey Travels to Geneseo Wednesday

UTICA, NY- The Utica College field hockey team returns to action Wednesday as it travels to SUNY Geneseo for a non-conference match up against the Knights.  Game time is scheduled for 5 p.m.
 
LAST TIME OUT: The Pioneers are coming off a 4-0 win at Elmira on Saturday…
UC had one goal each from Sabrina Whitehouse (Greenwich, NY/Greenwich), Jessica Belt (Webster, NY/Webster-Schroeder), Josie Sgarlata (Canastota, NY/Canastota), and freshman Hannah Nordstrom (Fairhaven, MA/Fairhaven) netted her first collegiate goal… Sydney Scaccia (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro), Ricki Haab (Stowe, VT/Stowe), Melissa Koch (Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse Minoa), and Joanna Gaertner (Schuylerville, NY/Schuylerville) each had one assist… Senior Samantha Whitehouse (Greenwich, NY/Greenwich) made eight saves on the day for her second shutout of the season.
 
LEADING THE WAY: Junior Rylee Meelan (Clinton, NY/Clinton) continues to lead the team with seven goals and four assists for 18 points… She needs just one more goal to match her single-season career-high of eight, which she accomplished as a freshman.
 
SISTER SISTER: Senior Samantha Whitehouse (Greenwich, NY/Greenwich) and her sister, freshman Sabrina Whitehouse (Greenwich, NY/Greenwich) are shining on both ends of the field for Utica… Samantha ranks second in the conference with a .805 save percentage and an average of 9.23 saves per game… She is currently third on the College's all-time list with 334 career saves… Sabrina is just the second player in the last five years to score at least 15 points as a freshman… Sabrina ranks second on the team with six goals and 15 points.
 
HEATING UP: Sophomore Josie Sgarlata (Canastota, NY/Canastota) has totaled five points (two goals, one assist) in the last three games… She is currently tied for third on the team with eight points.
 
SCOUTING GENESEO: The Knights are 8-5 overall and 4-2 in the SUNYAC… They are coming off a 7-0 win over Oswego on Saturday… Geneseo has outscored its opponents 20-0 over the last three games… Senior Giovanna Fasanello leads the team with 34 points on 14 goals and six assists.
 
AGAINST THE KNIGHTS: The Pioneers are 10-4 all-time against Geneseo, however the Knights have had the upper hand recently, winning by just one goal in each of the last two seasons… Last year, UC fell 1-0 to the Knights.
 
LOOKING AHEAD: Utica Remains on the road on Saturday as it travels to Brockport… Game time is scheduled for 12 p.m.
