UTICA, NY- The Utica College volleyball team wraps up Empire 8 Conference play Saturday as it travels to Nazareth College for a pair of E8 games. The Pioneers will take on Alfred University at 1:30 p.m. before facing host, Nazareth at 4 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT: Utica is coming off a tough 3-0 loss to Hamilton Tuesday evening… The Pioneers were led by junior
Nicole Herringshaw (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse), who had five kills and three blocks on the evening… Classmate
Hannah Voss (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) had a team-high 14 digs and two service aces, and she also chipped in with three kills...
Marissa Faroni (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) and
Jessica Macheda (Cazenovia, NY/Cazenovia) each tallied five assists on the night.
CONTROLLING THE NET: Junior
Nicole Herringshaw (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) leads the team and ranks second in the conference with a career-high 84 blocks this season… Her 36 solo blocks are the most in the E8… Herringshaw also leads Utica with 201 kills on the year.
SERVE IT UP: Junior
Hannah Voss (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) leads the team and is tied for second in the conference with 48 service aces… Voss also has a team-best 282 digs and she is second on the squad with 145 kills.
DISHING IT OUT: Junior
Marissa Faroni (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) leads the team with a career-high 322 assists… Freshman
Jessica Macheda (Cazenovia, NY/Cazenovia) has chipped in with 144 assists so far.
DOING IT ALL: Senior
Abigail Mosenthin (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville) ranks second on the squad in both digs (230) and service aces (19)… She also has 15 assists and nine kills to her credit.
SCOUTING ALFRED: The Saxons are 6-19 overall and 3-3 in the Empire 8… They are coming off a 3-0 win over Lycoming College last Saturday… Alfred is led by Amber Smith, who has 292 kills so far… Utica is 4-1 against Alfred in the last five years… Last year, the Pioneers fell 3-1 to the Saxons.
SCOUTING NAZ: The Golden Flyers are 16-9 overall and are currently second in the Empire 8 Conference standings with a 5-1 mark in league play… Naz is coming off a 3-0 win over Houghton on Wednesday… Utica is 0-5 against the Golden Flyers in the last five seasons… Last year, the Pioneers fell at home to Naz by a score of 3-0.
LOOKING AHEAD: The Pioneers will return home Wednesday evening as they welcome cross town rival, SUNY Poly for senior night… Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
