Volleyball Welcomes Caz Monday Night

UTICA, NY- The Utica College volleyball team is back in action Monday evening as it hosts Cazenovia College in non-conference action.  Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
 
LAST TIME OUT: The Pioneers are coming off a 1-1 weekend tri-match against Morrisville State and Southern Vermont… The Pioneers dropped a 3-0 decision to Morrisville in the opening game, before rebounding to knock off Southern Vermont 3-1… Hannah Voss (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) and Meaghan Romaguera (Stone Ridge, NY/Rondout) led the attack with eight kills each, while Nicole Herringshaw (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) was right behind them with seven kills of her own...  Voss also had a team-high four service aces, while Abigail Mosenthin (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville)  and Meaghan Romaguera (Stone Ridge, NY/Rondout) combined for three aces... Jessica Macheda (Cazenovia, NY/Cazenovia) led the squad with 16 assists, while Marissa Faroni (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) chipped in with 12 assists to her credit... Defensively, Mosenthin led the way with 17 digs, followed by Voss (14) and Romaguera (12).  Herringshaw picked up a game-high five blocks.
 
FORCE AT THE NET: Junior Nicole Herringshaw (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) has shined on both sides of the net so far this season… She leads the team with 134 kills and ranks second in the Empire 8 with 62 blocks. 
 
CAN YOU DIG IT?: The Pioneers have three players with over 100 kills on the year… Hannah Voss (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) leads the squad with 199 digs, followed by Abigail Mosenthin (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville), who has 166 digs, and Marissa Faroni (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) has totaled 114 digs… Voss is also second on the squad with 100 kills, while Faroni leads the team with 231 assists.
 
SCOUTING CAZENOVIA:  The Wildcats are 3-15 overall and 1-3 in the NEAC… Caz is coming off a 3-0 loss to Potsdam on Saturday… The Wildcats are led by Kassondra Kreppein, who has 78 kills.
 
AGAINST THE WILDCATS: The last time these two teams played was in 2013, when UC came away with a pair of wins, 3-1 and 3-0. 
 
LOOKING AHEAD: The Pioneers remain home on Saturday as they host an Empire 8 pod featuring St. John Fisher and Elmira… The Pioneers will open the day at 11 a.m. against Fisher.
