UTICA, NY- The Utica College volleyball team returns to the friendly confines of the Clark Gymnasium Wednesday for its home finale as it takes on crosstown rival, SUNY Poly. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT: The Pioneers are coming off a pair of losses to Nazareth and Alfred on Saturday… Junior
Nicole Herringshaw (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) had 14 kills and three blocks, while classmate
Hannah Voss (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) also added 14 kills on the day…
Marissa Faroni (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) combined for 29 assists and 27 digs in the two matches... Against Alfred, freshman
Jessica Macheda (Cazenovia, NY/Cazenovia) tied Faroni for the team-lead with 12 assists, while
Briana Toledo (Ardsley, NY/Ardsley) aided the defense with 11 digs.
SENIOR NIGHT: With Wednesday's contest being the last home game this season, the Pioneers will honor their lone senior,
Abigail Mosenthin (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville), as well as junior
Allison Della Penna (Batavia, NY/Batavia).
KILLING IT: Junior
Nicole Herringshaw (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) leads the team with 215 kills and she ranks third in the Empire 8 with a career-high 87 blocks… Herringshaw's average of .95 blocks per set ranks second in the conference.
ACE: Junior
Hannah Voss (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) leads the team and ranks fifth in the E8 with 49 service aces… Voss also leads the team with 296 digs and she is second on the squad with 159 kills.
DISHING IT OUT: Junior
Marissa Faroni (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) leads the team with a career-high 351 assists… Freshman
Jessica Macheda (Cazenovia, NY/Cazenovia) has chipped in with 156 assists so far.
DOING IT ALL: Senior
Abigail Mosenthin (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville) ranks second on the squad in digs (245) and she is third in service aces (20)… She also has 15 assists and nine kills to her credit.
SCOUTING SUNY POLY: The Wildcats are 10-12 overall and 5-3 in the NEAC… They are coming off a 3-0 win at Penn College on Saturday… SUNY Poly has four players with over 100 kills, led by Karlie King, who has a team-best 178… In the prior meeting between Utica and SUNY Poly this year, the Pioneers took the first set 27-25, before the Wildcats responded to win the next three sets and come away with the victory.
LOOKING AHEAD: Utica will travel to Wilkes-Barre, PA on Saturday for a tri-match against Rutgers-Camden (1 p.m.) and Wilkes University (3 p.m.).
