SUNY Poly Spoils Utica's Senior Day

UTICA, NY- The Utica College volleyball team dropped a heartbreaker, 3-1, to cross-town rival, SUNY Poly Wednesday evening at the Harold T. Clark Athletic Center. 
 
After falling down one set to zero and trailing 16-12 in the second stanza, the Pioneers rallied to score 12 of the next 13 points to even the score.  The teams battled back-and-forth in the third set but the visitors were finally able to come away with a 25-23 win and swing the momentum in their favor.  The Wildcats capped off the day with a 25-18 win in the fourth frame to come away with the victory.
 
Junior Nicole Herringshaw (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) led the Utica attack with 11 kills, while classmate Hannah Voss (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) chipped in with nine kills and freshman Meaghan Romaguera (Stone Ridge, NY/Rondout) added six kills of her own. 
 
Senior Abigail Mosenthin (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville) led the way with four aces on the evening, including three that sparked the Utica comeback in the second set.  Defensively, junior Miranda Stockbridge (Waterville, NY/Waterville) was all over the net as she recorded a career-high seven blocks, while classmate Allison Della Penna (Batavia, NY/Batavia) collected five blocks. 
 
Marissa Faroni (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) had 22 assists, marking the fourth time this season that she recorded 20 or more assists in a game.  Faroni also led the team with 20 digs on the evening.  Briana Toledo (Ardsley, NY/Ardsley) and Hannah Voss (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) combined for 30 digs as well. 
 
The Pioneers wrap up the season Saturday as they travel to Wilkes-Barre, PA for a tri-match against Rutgers-Camden (1 p.m.) and Wilkes University (3 p.m.).
