UC Volleyball Loses Two Against Fisher & Elmira

UTICA, NY – The Utica College volleyball team lost a pair of Empire 8 Conference games at home on Saturday afternoon against St. John Fisher College and Elmira College.  The Pioneers lost match one 3-0 (25-11, 25-15, 25-23) before falling to Elmira 3-1 in the nightcap by game scores of 25-19, 25-21, 27-29, 25-19. 

Nicole Herringshaw (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) led the Pioneers with 17 kills and four blocks on the day, while Miranda Stockbridge (Waterville, NY/Waterville) added 10 kills and three blocks. Marissa Faroni (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) finished the day with 20 assists and Abigail Mosenthin (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville) added 26 digs.  Hannah Voss (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) also chipped in with 21 digs and a team-high four aces.

Utica's record moved to 5-16 overall and 0-5 in Empire 8 play.  The Pioneers return to the hardwood on Thursday when they travel to The Sage Colleges to take on the Gators in Empire 8 Conference play at 7 p.m.

In match one against St. John Fisher, the Pioneers found themselves in an early 2-0 hole but they would not go down without a fight as they took the third game the distance but lost 25-23 as the Cardinals came away with the clean sweep.

Herringshaw led UC in game one with seven kills and two blocks.  Stockbridge added four kills and one block, while Marissa Faroni (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) posted nine assists. Mosenthin led UC with nine digs. Hannah Voss (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) added six digs and one ace.

UC lost the first two games against Elmira 25-19 and 25-21 before rallying for a third game victory by the score of 29-27.  The Soaring Eagles stayed the course and won the match with a 25-19 victory in game four. 

Herringshaw posted 10 kills and two blocks against Elmira.  Meaghan Romaguera (Stone Ridge, NY/Rondout) added six kills, while Stockbridge also posted six kills and two blocks. Faroni totaled 14 assists, while Jessica Macheda (Cazenovia, NY/Cazenovia) added 11 assists. Mosenthin led UC with 17 digs, while Voss had another nice all-around game with 15 digs, three aces and two assists.
