Elmira Hands Men's Hockey First Loss

UTICA, NY- The Utica College men's hockey team suffered its first loss of the season Saturday night as it fell to UCHC foe Elmira College, 5-1, in conference action in front of 3,250 people at the Adirondack Bank Center.

With the loss, Utica drops to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the conference.  The Pioneers will look to rebound on Friday as they travel to Lebanon Valley.  Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.

The Soaring Eagles jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first two periods and added another score at the beginning of the third before Utica was finally able to get on the board.  Freshman Conor Landrigan (New Tripoli, PA/Binghamton Jr. Sens (NAHL)) crashed the net and put in a loose puck for his second of the year, assisted by sophomore Jarrod Fitzpatrick (Wakefield, MA/Northern Cyclones (EHL)).  Senior Kevin Valenti (Queensbury, NY/Northern Cyclones (EHL)) also assisted on the play.

Elmira was able to capitalize on a 5-on-3 power play later in the period to cap off the scoring for the evening.

Sophomore goalie Patrik Virtanen (Vantaa, Finland/Lincoln (USHL)) made 35 saves in the loss, while Elmira's Gennaro Anzevino had a strong showing, totaling 40 saves in the win.
