UTICA, NY- The Utica College women's hockey team fell to visiting Manhattanville College 4-1 Sunday afternoon in non-conference action.
The Valiants went up 3-0 with one goal in the first and two in the second before the Pioneers were finally able to get on the board in the third period. At 8:51 of the final frame, junior
Danielle Haasbeek (Grand Forks, ND/Balmoral Hall) fired a shot from the point that found its way through traffic in front of Manhattanvile goalie Rose Pijaca and into the top of the net.
Katrina Cornick (Mason City, IA/Rocky Mountain Roughriders ) and
Samantha Husak (Jackson, MI/Belle Tire) assisted on Haasbeek's first of the year.
Manhattanville regained the three-goal lead with 3:02 remaining as Karly Kapur scored her second of the day.
Utica was 1-for-5 on the power play and outshot the Valiants 33-26 on the day. Senior
Amanda Lupo (Auburn, NY/Skaneateles) made 22 saves in the loss, while Pijaca had 32 saves in her first start of the season.
The Pioneers (2-2) open up UCHC Conference play next weekend as they travel to Chatham University. UC will face the Cougars Friday at 5:30 p.m. before wrapping up the series Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
