Women's Hockey Scores Four Unanswered Goals to Top Neumann

ASTON, PA- The Utica College women's hockey team scored four unanswered goals as it downed host Neumann University 4-1 in ECAC West Conference action Friday evening.  With the win, the Pioneers improve to 12-8-1 on the year and 7-6-1 in the conference.

Neumann opened that scoring at 3:27 of the first period as Grace Klienbach netted her 13th of the year.  Sammy Patrick and Mollie Johnson assisted on the play.  It was short lived, however as the Pioneers scored just 13 seconds later to even the score.  Senior Emily Coope (Phoenix, AZ/Colorado Tigers) took the puck off the ensuing face off and skated into the Neumann zone.  Coope fired a shot that was blocked by a defender, but the rebound bounced right to Jane Pagano (Erie, PA/Tabor Academy) who ripped a slap shot into the upper right hand corner.

Pagano scored again at 14:32 as she found the back of the net for her team-leading eighth goal of the year, this time with an unassisted short-handed tally.

Utica tacked on an insurance goal at 8:03 of the second period as junior Carlie Smith (Grimsby, Ontario/St. Catharine's Chaos) netted her second of the year, unassisted.  Pagano is now tied for tenth in the nation in scoring amongst defensemen, with .81 points per game.

The Pioneers capped of the scoring with just over eight minutes remaining in the game as sophomore Danielle Haasbeek (Grand Forks, ND/Balmoral Hall) netted her third of the year.  Coope and Pagano picked up the assists on the power play tally.

Senior Keira Goin (Dobbs Ferry, NY/Hotchkiss School) made 27 saves for her 10th win of the season, while her counterpart, Helen Cooney had 32 saves in the loss.

The teams wrap up the season series Saturday.  Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
