ROCHESTER, NY- Despite outscoring St. John Fisher in the second half, the Utica College men's basketball team fell to the Empire 8 front runners 78-63 in conference action Saturday.
Three players scored in the double digits for Utica, led by freshman
Miles McNeill (Rochester, NY/Aquinas), who finished with 15 points, just two off his season high of 17, which he accomplished earlier this season against the Cardinals. Junior
Ivan Iton (Ossining, NY/Ossining) had 13 points, while classmate
Bennito Ayarza (Brooklyn, NY/Cayuga Community College) had 12.
Carl Taylor (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) led the team with five rebounds, all off the defensive glass, and chipped in with eight points, three dishes, and two steals.
Tyler Jollie (Marlboro, NY/Marlboro) also added eight points for Utica, while
Christian Rodriguez (Queens, NY/Cayuga Community College) had six points. Both Jollie and Rodriguez were 2-for-2 from beyond the arc on the afternoon.
Three players scored 10 or more points for Fisher, led by Keegan Ryan, who recorded a double-double with 24 points and 10 boards.
Utica drops to 6-14 overall and 6-5 in the E8, while Fisher improves to 15-5 overall and maintains the top spot in the conference standings with a 10-1 mark in E8 play.
The Pioneers return to action Tuesday as they travel to Hartwick College. Game time is scheduled for 8 p.m.
