ONEONTA, NY – The Utica College women's basketball team lost to host Hartwick College 64-47 in Empire 8 Conference action on Tuesday night at Lambros Arena. UC's
Ashelyne Babb (Lynn, MA/Winthrop) netted 18 points, grabbed four rebounds and added two steals to pace the Pioneers.
Utica's record moved to 6-15 overall and 4-8 in Empire 8 play. The Hawks, who are tied for first in the Empire 8, improved to 15-7 overall and 11-2 in conference play. Carly Johnson led the Hawks with 21 points while Jacqui Foreman added 19 points and 12 rebounds.
Hartwick used a 12-3 run in the final 6:20 of the first to take a 12 point lead, 20-8, after 10 minutes of action. The Hawks maintained a double digit lead for the majority of the second quarter until the Pioneers made a quick push before the half, using a 6-0 run in the final two minutes of the half to make the score 34-25 as the halftime buzzer sounded.
Hartwick held UC to seven third quarter points to earn a 15 point advantage, 47-32, headed into the fourth and final quarter. Utica opened the fourth quarter on an 8-3 run to cut their deficit to ten points, 50-40, with 6:17 left in regulation. However, the Hawks kept the pressure on and increased its lead to 17 on three different occasions before the final horn sounded.
Hartwick capitalized on Utica's 18 turnovers, turning them into 21 points on the other end.

Nicolette Conkin (Los Altos, CA/Homestead) netted eight points and dished out three assists, while
Ashley Mayo (Nanuet, NY/Nanuet) added seven points and 10 rebounds.
Alaina Tripp (Clyde, NY/Clyde-Savannah) and
Marissa Woods (Westampton, NJ/Rancocas Valley) each added five points, while
Rachel Hunter (West Islip, NY/West Islip) registered eight rebounds.
Utica wraps up a four game road trip this weekend as it travels to Houghton on Friday (6 p.m.) and Alfred on Saturday (2 p.m.).
