KISSIMMEE, FL- The Utica College softball team earned a split on the second day of the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Florida on Monday. Utica fell to Lesley University 8-0 in game one, before rebounding to knock off Franklin and Marshall 5-0 in the second game.

After a scoreless first two innings, Lesley got on the board in the third as Mekenzi Golden hit a sacrifice fly to score Theresa Pereira.
The Lynx tacked on seven runs on as many hits in the fourth inning to take a commanding 8-0 lead. The Pioneers did not get a hit in the final inning and a half as Lesley claimed the run-rule victory.
Nicole Rice (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) and
Samantha Whitehouse (Greenwich, NY/Greenwich) were each 1-for-2 in the game.
Sabrina Stransky (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place) shouldered the loss.
Utica 5, Franklin and Marshall 0- Game Two Final
The bats came alive for Utica in game two as the Pioneers totaled 11 hits in their second outing and they cruised to their first win of the season.
UC got on the board in the second inning as freshman
Jacqueline Aronin (Naugatuck, Connecticut/Naugatuck High School) singled to the short stop to drive in
Sabrina Stransky (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place). Utica added an insurance run in the fifth as
Dominique Soto (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place) hit a clutch two-out double that brought in
Nicole Rice (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South).
The Pioneers pulled away in the seventh as they capitalized on mistakes by the Diplomats. Franklin and Marshall had two errors that resulted in runs, while
Madison Akots (Wynantskill, NY/Emma Willard School) drove in an additional score.
Stransky and
Nicole Rice (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) were each 2-for-4 with a run scored, while
Samantha Whitehouse (Greenwich, NY/Greenwich) was 2-for-3.
Kailyn Gravel (Sidney, New York/Sidney) and
Kassidy Ogren (Albany, NY/Colonie Central) also had hits.
Brittany Meka (Averill Park, NY/Averill Park) fanned five and allowed just three hits in the complete game victory.
The Pioneers (1-3) return to action Tuesday as they take on Mount Saint Mary (NY) at 1:30 p.m. and Farmingdale State at 6 p.m.
