Men's Lacrosse Hangs on to Down Oswego

UTICA, NY- The Utica College men's lacrosse team scored five goals in ten minutes in the fourth quarter to earn a 12-10 win over Oswego State in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon.  Junior Ryan Desveaux (Bowmanville, ONT/St. Stephen Catholic) led the Pioneers with six points on five goals and one assist.  Five goals in a single game matches Desveaux's career-high.

The Pioneers jumped out to a 4-2 lead in the first quarter behind goals from Desveaux, Liam Wheatley (Rochester, NY/Webster Schroeder), Jake Bratek (Syracuse, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt), and Brickman House (Oneida, WI/Pulaski)

Oswego rebounded in the second quarter, outscoring the home team 3-2 to head into halftime trailing 6-5.  Each team netted one goal in the third quarter setting up a showdown in the final 15 minutes of action.

Utica scored five of the next six goals to take a 12-7 lead with 4:26 remaining. Oswego would not go down without a fight, however as the Lakers scored the game's final three goals, including two in the last 22 seconds off the stick of Jarrod Wilkom.  It was too little, too late, as UC held on to pick up its fourth win of the season.

Sophomore Dominic Castiglia (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) had three goals and one assist, while Nick Yelich (Lancaster, NY/Depew) had a career-high four assists.  Bratek finished with two goals and one assist, while House also picked up a helper.

Senior Parker Smith (Dexter, NY/General Brown) made a career-high 21 saves, while his counterpart, Wyatt Russo had 6 saves in the loss.

The Pioneers have now won two straight and look to ride their momentum into an Empire 8 contest against conference foe Houghton College on Saturday.  Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
