HOBOKEN, NJ- Despite leading 7-6 at halftime, the Utica College women's lacrosse team fell to host Stevens Institute of Technology 12-8 in Empire 8 Conference action Saturday.

With the loss, the Pioneers drop to 6-5 overall and 3-2 in the E8. Stevens, meanwhile, improves to 10-3 and remains unbeaten in the conference with a 5-0 record.

Utica will look to rebound Tuesday as it travels to St. John Fisher College. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.

UC opened the scoring just 51 seconds into the game as senior
Colleen Dowling (Fairport, NY/Fairport) netted her 14
th of the year, off an assist from classmate
Rebecca Plunkett (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park). The teams traded scores in the first half before sophomore
Noelle Capriglione (New Milford, CT/New Milford ) netted her fourth of the year with 14 seconds remaining to send the Pioneers into halftime with a one-goal lead. Freshman
Rachel Gelina (Westfield, MA/Westfield) assisted on Capriglione's tally.Â

The Ducks came out flying in the second half as they scored three straight goals and added three more in the final 11 minutes of play to pick up their 10
th win of the year.

Sophomore
Katlyn Scarpinella (South Setauket, NY/Ward Melville) led the Pioneers with four points on the day, including a team-high three goals. Scarpinella also led the team with six draw controls. Dowling finished with two goals on the day, to bump her season total to 15, marking the highest production of her career.

Plunkett and
Brooke Miller (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) each finished with one goal, while
Sara Hennessey (East Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse Minoa) had one assist. Plunkett now needs just one more point to move into a tie for fourth place on the College's career scoring list with 2015 graduate and current assistant coach,
Morgan DuPont.Â

Devon Burri (Clifton Springs, NY/Midlakes) with two caused turnovers.Â

Emily Holtshouser (Londonderry, NH/Londonderry) made three saves in her first complete game, while Stevens' Stephanie Schnelzer was credited with the win.Â
