SCHENECTADY, NY- The Utica College softball team got back on track Tuesday as it swept Union College, 5-0 and 10-2, in non-conference action.

Jamie Miller (Boonville, NY/Adirondack) led the way for UC going 6-for-7 with four runs scored in the doubleheader.Â

Utica 5, Union 0- Game one final
The Pioneers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first and sealed the deal with three scores in the seventh for a 5-0 win.

Utica got on the board thanks to an RBI double by
Hayley Fredericks (Suffern, NY/Suffern) and the Pioneers scored again on an error by the Union shortstop.
Â
UC added three insurance runs in the seventh as Fredericks drove in another tally and
Nicole Rice (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) singled to left to bring in two more.
Â
Rice finished the game going 3-for-4 with two RBIs to pace the Pioneers.Â
Jamie Miller (Boonville, NY/Adirondack) was 2-for-3, while Fredericks,
Alyssa Samborin (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen), and
Sabrina Stransky (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place) each had one hit. Rice and Miller each had one steal in game one.Â

Brittany Meka (Averill Park, NY/Averill Park) was lights out in the circle as she allowed just one hit and had a perfect game going through the first four innings. Meka totaled five strikeouts in the win.

Utica 10, Union 2- Game two final
The Pioneers erased a 2-0 deficit by scoring 10 runs in the final three innings to complete the sweep. Utica exploded for 15 hits in game two, led by Miller, who went 4-for-4 with three runs scored.

Fredericks was 3-for-5, including two doubles and four RBIs, while Rice was 2-for-5. Pitcher
Alyssa Samborin (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen) helped her cause by going 2-for-2 with two runs.Â
Samantha Whitehouse (Greenwich, NY/Greenwich),
Sabrina Stransky (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place),
Josie Sgarlata (Canastota, NY/Canastota), and
Dominique Soto (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place) also had hits.Â

Samborin struck out three and allowed just four hits to pick up her first career win.

The Pioneers (12-14) look to carry their momentum into an Empire 8 Conference doubleheader against Stevens on Saturday. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Utica's Greenman Field.Â
